To Obtain an Instruction Permit:
15 yrs old-15 1/2 yrs old: Need to complete a 30 hr driver education coarse (classroom, internet)
15 1/2 yrs old: Need to complete one of the following-
1) 4 hour driver awareness program
2) 30 hour driver education coarse (classroom, internet)
16 yrs old- 18 yrs old: no formal education required.
To Obtain a Drivers License:
Permit Issued at 15 -15 1/2 yrs old BEFORE August 11, 2010: Must hold instruction permit for full 12 months, log 50 hrs on log sheet (10 at night), and 6 hrs behind the wheel training with a drive instructor. (Unless person lives over 30 miles from a full time driver education school)
Permit Issued at 15-15 1/2 yrs old AFTER August 11, 2010: Must hold instruction permit for full 12 months, log 50 hrs on log sheet (10 at night), and 6 hrs behind the wheel training with an instructor. (Unless person lives over 30 miles from a full time driver education school) BTW is NOT required on or after 16 1/2 yrs old while holding permit.
Permit Issued at 15 1/2-16 yrs old:
1) Permit was issued with 4 hr awarenes program: Person only needs to hold instruction permit for 12 months and log 50 hrs on log sheet (10 at night).
2) Permit was issued with 30 hr classroom completion: Person only needs to hold instruction permit for 12 months ans log 50 hrs on log sheet (10 at night).
Permit Issued at 16-18 yrs old: Person needs to hold instruction permit for 12 months and log 50 hrs on log sheet (10 at night).
Colorado Licensing Laws for Drivers Under 18:
Instruction Permit:
Statute: Violated restrictions on temporary instruction permit.
Restrictions:Driver with permit can only drive with individuals that signed the affidavit; supervisor must be in front seat.
Exemptions: May drive with an alternate supervisor over the age of 21 with a valid License.

Statute: Misuse of cell phone while operating a motor vehical.
Restrictions: No driver with a permit shall use a cell phone while operating a motor vehical.
Exemptions: To contact a public safety entity, while vehicalis lawfully parked, or during an emergency.

Passengers:
Statute: Minor driver operating a motor vehical with an unauthorized passenger.
Restrictions: 1) No passengers under the age of 21 in the first 6 months of holding their license.
2) 1 passenger under age of 21 allowed between 6 monhs and 1 year of holding their license.
Exemptions: Immediate family/siblings are allowed. If parent in car or adult over 21 with valid license for at least 1 yr. multiple people allowed. If passenger needs emergency medical help.
